EFF

EFF leader Julius Malema has threatened to unleash the “mother of all protests” which he said would bring South Africa to a standstill on March 20, as the opposition pressurises the government to end load shedding.

Speaking to journalists in Joburg after the EFF’S plenum, Malema said his party would not seek permission to hold the mass protest, and warned businesses to close shop on the day.

“It is our constitutional right to protest and we shall protest on the 20th of March. Like Sharpeville, we are not afraid of the state power, let the state come with its power, we will come with mass power,” said Malema. | IOL

Murder charge

THE Orkney Magistrate’s Court has denied ANC MP Sibusiso Kula bail after he was charged with the murder of his wife.

The matter has been postponed to February 24, 2023, for further investigations.

According to National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Henry Mamothame, Kula’s wife appeared to have been killed on November 27, 2022, in an alleged robbery. She was found with a stab wound to her back but the object that was used for her alleged murder has not been recovered.

Mamothame said that following investigations, the 34-year-old Kula was arrested on January 20, and charged with murder.

He would remain in police custody until the next court appearance. | IOL
