EMIGRATION
There are attractive and affordable options available to South Africans wanting to live in Portugal, says Dani van Vuuren, business development consultant at Sovereign Trust. The D7 Passive Income Visa offers a relatively simple route to obtaining Portuguese residency, he says, and applicants do not have to make the long-term financial commitment of buying a property. Applicants have to meet the minimum passive income level of €8 460 (about R150 000) a year, which increases by an additional €4 230 (R75 000) a year for a spouse and a further €2 538 (R45 000) per child. They have to live in Portugal for at least 183 days per year.
