Life for raping mentally disabled relative
A 33-year-old man from Thusi Village in Ermelo, Mpumalanga, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a mentally disabled 15-year-old.
The NPA’s Mpumalanga spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said the man sentenced by the Ermelo Regional Court was the girl’s brother-in-law.
“… On March 15 last year, the man and the young girl attended a family function,” said Nyuswa. At the function, he asked her to meet him on the road. “When she arrived, the man dragged her into the veld and forcefully raped her.” In court, the man said she had consented, but his version was rejected and he was convicted of rape, said Nyuswa.
