Selena Gomez says Taylor Swift was her style icon

SELENA Gomez, 28, has revealed she looked to Taylor Swift to navigate her sense of style during her early pop star career after she received controversy for donning a strapless dress in her Love You Like a Love Song music video.

She told Vogue: “My stepdad and I got into a little bit of an argument. It was a lot of boobs. Ah, he’s just protective. I was 18. This was Love

You Like a Love Song, the video that we did for it, which to this day is still one of my favourite songs.

“I thought it was time to cross over and become a pop star. Taylor inspired me a lot when it comes to wardrobe and stage outfits. But you’re never going to see me wear that again, no.”

One of Gomez’s all-time favourite outfits was the daring Versace gown she wore to the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards because it made her feel “like a woman” for the first time. “I loved this dress! I’d said many times before, ‘I look like a kid still’. I tried it on and my stylist said, ‘Is this too sexy?' And I said, ‘The dress isn’t about being sexy. It’s a statement. It was one of the first times I felt, ‘I’m feeling it. Feeling myself.”
