TO CELEBRATE its second anniversary, and Heritage Month, the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria will host a series of public events and exhibitions.

The centre is today hosting a music masterclass with artist Willem Boshoff and composer Jaco Meyer on the conceptual integration between the two disciplines, and a curatorial walkabout of the artistic research and exhibition project Interfacing New Heavens led by the project’s co-curator, Sinethemba Twalo.

Events will be free to the public on Heritage Day. These include screening of Afrikaaps, award-winning documentary film-maker and educator Dylan Valley’s debut film in which he uses hip hop, humour and personal perspective to explore the often untold creole history of Afrikaans.

Apart from the September Heritage Month exhibitions, Javett-up houses the Javett Foundation’s collection of 20th century South African art, which contains the Anglogold Ashanti Collection and the Mapungubwe Gold archaeological collection which is historically and culturally important for South Africa, the southern African region and the world.
