SHE may only be 11-years-old, but Chevonne Coertzen is already sporting her own unique clothing range.

Despite being a Grade 6 learner at Curro Hazeldean Primary School in the east of Pretoria, which keeps her very busy, this little entrepreneur finds time to devote to her passion – the designing of tie-dye patterns.

But it does not end there for Chevonne; she is artistic and is able to develop any pattern in the tie-dye form. She also makes the clothes herself.

Each item is unique, her mother Chantelle Coertzen said. People can submit what patterns they like and Chevonne will work her magic, not only to make it look special, but to ensure that everyone can have a unique pattern on their material.

While this fun-loving girl dotes on drama, acrobatics and netball, which keeps her very busy along with her school work, she devotes every spare moment to her tie-dye art passion.

She has been involved in the art of tie-dyeing for some time, but Chevonne’s Creations only came into being in January this year.

Her mother said it all came together when Chevonne requested a tie-dye kit as a birthday present last October.

“The idea was born after her friends at school loved her shirts and requested her to make some for them.

She immediately saw the business potential, and as a mother I supported and encouraged her,” Coertzen said.

She is doing tie-dye on orders received from family, friends and advertising via Facebook.

She has done a variety of items – from baby vests to shirts for adults.

Chevonne loves being creative and she works out the patterns and colour combinations according to the preference of the specific client.

“Mommy just helps with the finances and marketing. She is not only supplementing her pocket money through this business venture, but she is also living out her dreams and creativity,” said Coertzen.

Chevonne charges on average R120 for a child’s shirt and R150 for an adult’s shirt.

But, she said, if you bring your own shirt, there is a discount.

Living in the east of Pretoria is also no problem, as Chevonne couriers her creations to wherever it must go.

No order is too big or too small, she said.

Her mother added that Chevonne has the heart of an entrepreneur and she wants to be an actress one day with her own clothing brand.
